Another new one

This picture was taken right after my tattoo was finished.
It’s a cover-up, but unfortunately i don’t have a quality photo of the original tattoo. The original tattoo was a hummingbird as well, but it was poorly done in my friend’s living room when i was 15.
I got this tattoo because it reminds me of my grandmother. We used to watch hummingbirds out the window at my cottage, and after she passed away i could never see a hummingbird without thinking of her. We both endured abusive relationships— sexually, verbally, physically, and emotionally. Unfortunately she was never able to escape hers. I left mine several years ago now, but i’m still growing and i still feel the pain from it. I got the hummingbird tattooed on me to remind me of her incredible beauty and strength, and to remind me to always have strength in my relationships.
Tattoo done by Rob Chambers at The Ink Spot in Ottawa, Ontario.

My family has a tradition of giving words instead of material gifts for special occasions.
This year I received three sets:
坚强, jianqiang. Which means to stay strong.
坚持, jianchi. Which means to persevere and to persist.
坚信, jianxin. Which means to believe.
This past December, I made the choice to move away from my parents in Florida and back to my home state of Arizona so I could finish high school with my friends. My mother wanted to see me persist and work on my consistency. She wanted me to stay strong while I was living alone. At the same time, she wanted me to stay true to myself and to believe in myself.
When I graduated, she asked me which I felt I had succeeded most in. I answered “jianxin” because I felt I had disappointed her in my consistency and strength. The least I could do was to stay unapologetic and faithful to who I am.
She said, “Jianqiang, because you have proven yourself to be stronger than any of us ever hoped or expected.”

This year. i lost a close family member. i lost many other things too, sacred things. no regrets though, so much has been happening and all i do is panic. I got this to remind me that i should always breathe, and calm the hell down. Heh.
It is on my left side, on my ribcage, surprisingly it didnt hurt, only the B felt funny.
This is my first tattoo, more to come
